Walkways | Curb Appeal | Plantings

Parked on the corner of Napier Ave and Colfax, this city building stands rather unassuming for the purpose it serves.  It’s no surprise that the employees coming and going from this site wished for a more beautiful presence.  Old raised brick planters started to crumble from ill-planned drainage and weed-infested walkways created more of a deterrent than a welcome invitation.  A makeover was in order.

Project Description

Parked on the corner of Napier Ave and Colfax, this city building stands rather unassuming for the purpose it serves.  It’s no surprise that the employees coming and going from this site wished for a more beautiful presence.  Old raised brick planters started to crumble from ill-planned drainage and weed-infested walkways created more of a deterrent than a welcome invitation.  A makeover was in order.

A new maintenance-free concrete walkway was poured with curves and arcs with multiple entrance points. The brick planters were removed in lieu of more generous planting beds.  The bed lines roll along the front of the building in flowing curves.  The beds are filled with a mix of shrubs, grasses and perennials bringing seasonal interest and color.

Now this building sits cheerfully at its corner greeting walking pedestrians, vehicle drivers and employees alike.  Simple changes with significant impact.
